Stephen on common misunderstandings about project controls

Project controls can frequently be misunderstood. It is our goal to ensure that reporting is simplified. Systems and tools need to be integrated so that there is a single source of truth for project performance incorporating planning, cost, earned value management and risk plus change.

Biggest challenge for project management professionals

Technology and project management systems are developing rapidly. It’s important for project managers to keep up to date with all the latest developments and advances in the software packages used for project controls.

How the industry can overcome software related challenges

There are many bespoke software packages, which often leads to different reporting styles and metrics within PMOs. Moving forward, further development of project controls system architecture would be beneficial. This would ensure that a consistent understanding within the project management community exists for infrastructure programmes.
