Mark Dawson

Mark joined Costain in 2017 with primary responsibility for providing cost engineering support to two engineering procurement contracts within the Energy sector. Since then, he’s worked across the business in water and defence as well as taken on managerial responsibility for cost engineering discipline. Mark’s particular strengths lie in data management and analytics giving insight into ‘big data’, which he applies to clients' projects in highly regulated industries.

About Mark

After studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at York University, Mark joined a Graduate Training Scheme at Magnox. He worked in the central Programme Management Office team to provide support across the portfolio of nuclear generation and decommissioning projects. Having enjoyed variety and the dynamic nature of his degree and graduate scheme, Mark is keen to emphasise that his role in project controls requires an integrated team approach – nothing can be achieved in silos.

What does Mark believe is biggest challenge for project management professionals?

Encouraging people into the profession is always top of his list of challenges. Early project planning and resource forecasting is needed to identify the competencies in demand. Only with that information can we develop an organisational wide strategy with our clients and partners to grow talent and bring in new recruits.
