European carbon capture and storage design verification

Statoil and the Norwegian Government entered an agreement to provide a demonstration plant at Mongstad to investigate carbon capture in a two stage process. Costain carried out a verification exercise of the initial design.

Costain provided design verification services by assessment of the following:

  • Process simulations for the flue gas pre-treatment
  • Flue gas cyclone design
  • Residue Catalytic Cracker (RCC) and Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHP) gas blowers
  • RCC and CHP direct contact coolers
  • RCC and CHP cooling water heat exchangers
  • RCC and CHP re-circulating cooling water pumps
  • The control and shutdown philosophy for the flue gas system
