Alternative oil export system
Costain was contracted by Ithaca to define the optimal short-term solution to export oil from the Stella field.
The interim resolution was to allow the continued negotiation of a pipeline routing which could accept wax deposits and associated pigging. Costain assessed all the alternative oil export options including:
- A subsea storage tank
- Floating storage units, both ship-shaped and cylindrical
- Spar buoy
- SAL moored shuttle tankers
- DP shuttle tankers with various riser systems
The assessment included the overall project costings over varying time frames and assessed the impact on production efficiency
We identified a SAL system operated with DP shuttle tankers as the optimum short-term oil export system for the project. The recommendation is cost effective and allows flexibility for future solutions.
