Promoting Biodiversity With Wildlife Trust Consultancies

Wildlife Week, Promoting Biodiversity With Wildlife Trust Consultancies

28 July 2015

Costain has signed a framework agreement with the Wildlife Trust Consultancies to promote greater biodiversity in the delivery of ever more complex infrastructure projects.

The professional services framework agreement gives Costain access to local Wildlife Trust Environmental Consultancies which provide expert support to project delivery teams. Their Consultancies services range from protected species licencing through to landscape and arboricultural consultancy.

The Consultancies are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Wildlife Trusts, which collectively manages more than 95,000ha of land across 2,300 individual locations, offering ecological consultancy across the UK. All profits from the consultancies are donated to the Wildlife Trusts to support their charitable work in protecting the UK’s wildlife and nature reserves.

The signing took place ahead of Costain’s Wildlife Week initiative, which challenges projects to do one thing on their site to promote biodiversity and link with external charities to give something back to the local environment. Many projects and office staff carried out volunteering activities during the week with the local Wildlife Trusts. The Maidenhead office team built a new footpath and stag beetle habitat at Woolley Firs Education Centre just 5 minutes from the head office.

Geraint Rowland, Group Environmental Manager, said: “The decision to work with the Wildlife Trust Consultancies was an easy one for us: they are the local experts up and down the country and will enable us to better meet our own and our client’s biodiversity ambitions. We look forward to seeing the relationship going from strength to strength.”

Phil Hills, Director of Cornwall Environmental Consultants Ltd and a spokesman for the Wildlife Trust Consultancies, added: "We can add value to Costain’s projects and aim to become an integral part of the Costain delivery team in the future. We bring unparalleled local knowledge to the table and because of our national distribution we can ensure that knowledge is applied to every Costain job. Costain operates high standards in terms of its responsibilities and these are values we prioritise as well."
