Big engineering and construction capital projects demand the use of sophisticated project management techniques as the basis for project planning and scheduling. That is why, based on nearly 40-years I have been involved with project management, I feel strongly about spreading the word concerning the importance of the technical integrity of the project schedule to success. Central to this is the use of robust, tried-and-tested critical path analysis methods for managing time.

Our oil and gas team is using its expertise in field development and subsea infrastructure to support a £2.5 million project, helping to shape the future of Carbon Capture Storage. Working alongside partners Pale Blue Dot Energy and Axis Wells Technology, Costain’s role is to evaluate the offshore infrastructure requirements for five potential offshore sites to store CO2 generated by some of the UK’s major power stations and industrial sites around the UK.
Due to record investment in infrastructure and leisure alongside an increase in private housing and the commercial sector, the construction skills network predicts 224,000 extra construction jobs will be needed by 2019. It would appear an increase in apprenticeships would be the perfect solution to bridge this gap, however…
